That work has already contributed to three important initiatives shaping the future of our region.
Protecting a Global Treasure
Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge
Partners in Philanthropy helped build local support for the effort to secure UNESCO World Heritage recognition for the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge.
On July 25, 2026, the Okefenokee officially became Georgia’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site—recognizing the ecological significance of one of the world's most remarkable freshwater ecosystems.

Advancing Dignity Through Charity
True Charity Southeast Georgia
Two years of regional education, workshops, and philanthropic collaboration helped lay the foundation for True Charity Southeast Georgia, a regional movement focused on helping individuals and families move toward lasting independence.
In July 2026, Katrina Bue was named the region's first True Charity Ambassador. She will work with churches, nonprofits, and community leaders to advance dignity-centered approaches to charity and strengthen the network of organizations already engaged in the True Charity movement.
Today, 25 local organizations are participating in this work across Southeast Georgia.

Connecting People to Opportunity
Public Transportation & Regional Connectivity
Our newest Partners in Philanthropy initiative is focused on an issue with a direct impact on Coastal Georgia's workforce, families, and quality of life: public transportation and regional connectivity.
Working with Georgia Tech's Partnership for Innovation, Partners in Philanthropy is exploring solutions to strengthen connections between Brunswick's mainland transit service and employment opportunities on St. Simons Island, while also considering the needs of elderly riders who rely on the Coastal Regional Commission's transit system.
By bringing regional leaders, philanthropic partners, and experts to the same table, this initiative is working toward practical solutions to one of Coastal Georgia's most persistent challenges.
