For more than a century, Grace Baptist Church, now Grace Hall Darien, has been part of Darien's story.
Since 1915, it has stood as a landmark in Darien's historic district and an important part of McIntosh County's Gullah Geechee heritage, serving generations as a place of faith and fellowship. After years of abandonment and storm damage left it on the brink of collapse, the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation named it one of Georgia's Places in Peril in 2024. Thanks to dedicated supporters, funding was secured and structural restoration is now nearing completion.
Saving the building is only the first step. The greater opportunity is to fill it once again, transforming it into a much-needed regional gathering place for music, arts, weddings, lectures, meetings, and community and nonprofit events. In a region with few venues of its kind, Grace Hall promises to become an important cultural and civic center for coastal Georgia.
