In 2017 The Communities of Coastal Georgia Foundation invested close to $2.3M in grants. Since our founding in 2005 through 2017, the Foundation has distributed $12M in grants across a broad range of programs, services, and opportunities. Of that $12M, 80% were made in the state of Georgia. Our investment in hundreds of nonprofits in our area strengthens and underscores our mission to build a better community.
A Post-Secondary Scholarship Program offered to Students from Camden County, Georgia pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in either a Biological or Physical Science Field or pursuing a Music, Music Education or a Related Field.
The Halsey Family Scholarship was established by John F. (Jack) Halsey, PhD, and Sandra M. (Sandy) Halsey in recognition of the significant influence that both science and music education and research have had on their lives. The Halsey Family Scholarship awards up to four (4) academic semesters of support to undergraduate students beginning in their freshman year in college, based on continued progress and academic achievement.
The scholarship provides up to $2,000 per semester (maximum, $4,000 per year), which is paid directly to the post-secondary institution, on behalf of the student each semester, to offset costs of tuition, fees, books, and room and board. Any excess funds are distributed to the student through the institution’s student accounts services to pay for living expenses.
- Applicant must be a senior who will be graduating from Camden County High School, or any successor public high school(s) in Camden County.
- Applicant must be accepted at a regionally-accredited undergraduate institute in the United States, with the intention of majoring in either:
The biological or physical science field. (Examples of an appropriate majors include physics, chemistry, astronomy, biochemistry, biology, microbiology or an engineering program in one of these areas of science) or;
Majoring in music, music education or a related field, (such as a Bachelor of Arts in Music, Bachelor of Music in Music Education, Bachelor of Music in Composition, Bachelor of Music in Music Theory, Bachelor of Music in Performance or a closely related field).
- The institution must be approved and accredited to offer a bachelor’s degree in one of these or a closely-related field. The student must provide a copy of the acceptance letter with his/her scholarship application.
- The applicant must complete an online application and attach an essay (limit 750 words) in which the applicant discusses his/her future interests in the field of science or music and provides some insight into his/her financial need, a copy of his/her high school transcript and a copy of current SAT or ACT scores.
- Two letters of recommendation (at least one must be from a professor/teacher in the basic sciences or the field of music or music education) are required. These should be submitted directly to epost@coastalgeorgiafoundation.org by the professor or teacher.
- Preference will be given to applicants who have a demonstrated financial need and who have a declared and demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in either science or music.
Recommendations for scholarship award winners and alternates are made by a Selection Committee and the Foundation each year in advance of Scholarship Night.
Once awarded a scholarship, students must maintain acceptable academic progress. Criteria include the student’s GPA, institution attended, the major and the course load. The student must attain qualifying enrollment status to receive subsequent year funding: e.g., “sophomore” for year two.
The selection process for The Halsey Family Scholarships is overseen by the Communities of Coastal Georgia Foundation, where the scholarship fund is housed.
Annually, the Board of the Foundation appoints a Scholarship Selection Committee to oversee the selection process for the various scholarship programs it administers. The Selection Committee will review application materials, interview applicants (as appropriate) and make recommendations for the award to the Board of the Foundation.

- Copy of ACT and/or SAT Scores (all).
- Letter of Acceptance from College or University.
- Student Essay (750 words or less) which discusses applicant’s career in the field of science or music and provides insight into applicant’s financial need.
- Two letters of recommendation, emailed directly to epost@coastalgeorgiafoundation.org. At least one must be from a science or music teacher/professor.
With the exception of the two letters of recommendation, you should create ONE zip file with all of the other documentation enclosed. You will upload that file as part of the application process, so please do not submit this form with out it. If you can not perform this task, please plan on sending the documentation separately to the Foundation.
The 2019 deadline for submission is March 4th; all materials must be provided by that date.
The Glynn Academy Class of 1969, a member of Communities of Coastal Georgia Foundation, will award a $2,500 academic scholarship to a graduating Glynn Academy senior who has been accepted to attend a Georgia academic college or university. There will be no restriction regarding race, ethnicity, creed or gender.
The senior must meet the following criteria:
1. Applicants must have a cumulative grade point average between 2.70 and 2.99 HOPE grade point average.
2. Applicants must supply family background and demonstrate financial need.
3. Applicants must be a good school citizen with no demerits, excellent attendance and no failures.
4. Applicants must demonstrate active involvement in extracurricular school and community activities.

Camden County CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) Program, Kingsland, Georgia - to provide training opportunities for Staff and Advocates. Coastal Georgia Historical Society - to support a pilot Archaeology and History Summer Day Camp for children attending the Saint Simons Island Boys and Girls Club. The Communities of Coastal Georgia Foundation (CCGF) is pleased to announce the beginning of its 2019 competitive grant cycle. The application cycle begins January 2nd and awards are announced in early June. Funding is made possible through the Foundation’s Community Impact Fund, which is supported by the Coastal Community Endowment and Fundholders.
Eligibility: The Communities of Coastal Georgia Foundation invites inquiries from non-profit public charities and educational institutions serving the citizens of Glynn, McIntosh, and/or Camden Counties. Governmental agencies, religious, and civic organizations will also be considered if the grant is to be used strictly for charitable purposes as defined by the Internal Revenue Code, Section 170.
