The Foundation celebrated a milestone in October with its first meeting in Camden County.
The Board of Directors of the Communities of Coastal Georgia Foundation met in Camden County on Wednesday, October 7th, at 4:00pm, marking a first for the decade old philanthropic organization. The 19-member Board held its regular meeting at the Salvation Army Resource Center, 1909 Osborne Road, St. Marys. Following its regular business, the Board heard presentations from key community leaders including Salvation Army Executive Director Charlene Sears and Camden County School Superintendent Dr. Will Hardin. The Board and friends also had the opportunity to tour the community and enjoy an educational dinner on the river.
Camden County is represented on the Foundation’s Board of Directors by Edward Andrews Jr., Jeff Barker and Mary Root. In the past year, the Foundation has awarded competitive and donor-advised grants to a wide range of programs and services for Camden County residents, including Coastal Counseling Center, CASA Camden, Camden Humane Society, The Methodist Home, Burnt Fort Historical Society, the Bryan Lang Foundation, and summer enrichment at Advance Learning Academy. Two new initiatives, a strings program for students at St. Marys Elementary School and a college scholarship for aspiring scientists graduating from Camden County High School, have been launched by the Foundation through The Halsey Family Fund. The Foundation continues to work with community members and philanthropists to invest in and advance programs and services which improve quality of life in Camden County.
