Community Foundation & St. Marys Methodist Church Foundation Co-Sponsor True Charity Workshop

On Tuesday, May 14, 2024, the Communities of Coastal Georgia Foundation (CCGF) and the St. Marys Methodist Church Foundation (SMMCF) co-sponsored a True Charity Workshop in St. Marys, Ga.

Founded by James Whitford, True Charity from Joplin, Missouri focuses on “effective charity”. Jeff Barker, President of SMMCF, said of the organization, “True Charity is a Christ-centered, action-oriented thought partner for delivering positive outcomes for the communities and individuals our regional nonprofits serve. They help us look at transformational rather than transactional charity.”

Approximately 75 attendees participated in the workshop exploring principles of relational, responsible charity and strategizing with other vested community members on how to truly move the poverty needle in our coastal communities. This included discussions on how to help people without creating dependency, how to measure the effectiveness of programing, and how to identify the true needs of those which their organization intends to serve.

Keeva Kase, President & CEO of CCGF, shared his thoughts on the workshop stating, “The Communities of Coastal Georgia Foundation and the St. Marys Methodist Church Foundation have worked together for twenty plus years and have invested millions of philanthropic dollars over those years. True Charity is helping us build upon these investments to ensure we are achieving our shared desired results.”
